Good morning, I support a small partnership of schools in the UK, and have inherited an odd 3CX setup with an issue that may involve altering trunks, but I need a little advice on where to start if anyone would be so kind?

I support a collection of 5 schools in a little partnership in the UK, we’ve got a locally installed 3CX instance at one school which runs just their phones (on a Gamma Trunk), and another locally installed instance of 3CX at a high school (the bill is paid to Southern Communications Ltd, but the trunk is called “Gamma Trunk” in 3CX, so either just the name from an old setup, or perhaps they resell Gamma stuff in the background?), and the latter bigger system has the phones on for all the other 4 schools. The two systems are on 3CX Professional v20, up to date, and connected via a bridge so people can call each other internally between the two. At some point we’ll want to just have one system, but having two is fine for now.

What isn’t fine is I’ve just found that one of the smaller schools has its own sip trunk (Gamma) going to a sneaky virtual machine on site with an ill maintained old free 3CX v18 setup on there that my predecessor left, so when people call that school’s main number, it goes to their trunk and the 3CX system at their site, and this then calls the high school 3CX system, which then redirects to the correct call queue….

Obviously I’d like to sort this so that odd one is going to the main system at the high school and less resembles a house of cards, but I’m not sure where to start as I’ve not had to play with trunks much before. For a 3CX setup novice, what are my options?

I’d like to get the smaller school’s number coming in at the high school, but since they’re with Gamma, and the High School is with Southern Communications Ltd, I’m unsure how this is all going to work. I’m going to contact Southern Communications Ltd about this too shortly. Add to that the trunks going to the two systems in question have no authentication on (is this just IP based I assume?), so I imagine that might need updating if we get another trunk in on the external IP address of the 3CX system?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly welcomed!

Thank you

You can either move the trunk over to the other PBX or port the number to the provider which SC can help you with.
