Hi all,
I have seen a lot of info of this on Google but I just want to ask in this forum as well.

Currently, I have 2 SIP trunk providers. I am planning to migrate one of the existing sip trunk to a new provider.
The new provider is listed in the 3cx SIP options. However, I can't get it to work. I never had trouble setting up SIP trunk before. Normally it is just straight forward.

The new provider sent me a screenshot that he can register it using a softphone.
This make me think that this is a Sip line instead of a SIP trunk which is why it won't work.

Am I right on this one? Thanks in advance.

o_O Can you add some meat to your explanation of the issue. I don't think i understand what your looking at between a sip line and sip trunk.

Sorry, if it is confusing.

I am trying to add a new SIP trunks but the authentication given to me doesn't work.

The provider said that they can successfully register it on their end using a soft phone software.

My understanding is that a SIP trunk authentication would be different to a SIP line authentication?

A SIP line and a SIP trunk can be the same.....or not. Generally, people refer to a SIP line, when talking about a single line, consumer (residential) offering, or an extension off a PBX. SIP trunk is usually used when talking about a commercial (business) service. A SIP trunk can usually handle multiple calls and offer things like DID service, but excludes many residential type features, 3-way calling, call waiting, and the like.

Depending on the provider, they may very well register in the same manner...but, a SIP trunk provider may offer other registration options as well.
In many cases, a SIP phone can be registered to what is offered as a "SIP trunk", just as a 3CX SIP trunk (in many cases) can register to a SIP line from another PBX. Keep in mind, there are always exceptions.

Which provider is this? What sort of error(s) are you getting in the Activity Log?

Thanks - yes that is what I have read as well.

The error message is:
Call or Registration to Vocus Communications has failed. sip:[email protected] replied: 404 Not found

One thing that I have noticed is it says 10006 - I am not sure where that number is coming from as the username or maintrunk# is totally different. I am thinking if the 3cx vocus template isn't working or an issue on Vocus end.

The other SIP trunk providers that I have worked straight away. Engin and Australian Phone Company.

This is 3CX internal ID for your trunk

The 404 Not Found would seem to indicate that the USER information is not correct (they don't know who you are), or, you are sending the Registration to the wrong destination (port?). If you have a stand alone device, that can be manually configured, then try setting up that device yourself to confirm that it works.
Post the 3CX settings you have put in for the trunk, Xing out part any critical information.

All it takes is one typo, or a zero for an Oh, and it's not going to work.
