OK, those whom successfully integrated 3CX with Skype...

1. Are you using the older Skype Gateway or newer Skype Connect?
2. Are video calls ever going to be supported?
3. Are you able to call or "call-back" a true Skype ID account thru 3CX or does Skype block that and require us to buy an online number? If you are able without the online number, what are we doing wrong? See below log *.

We have Skype Connect working but cannot call a Skype account from 3CX softphone. Even tried creating a virtual extension that calls the Skype ID and it fails. So, for us, the Skype feature only offers us inbound calls, no way to call them back if we miss call.

I've only had Skype up and running for about a month and a half using the Skype Gateway. A couple people get annoyed with me as it shows that I'm always on-line, even though I'm not sitting in front of a computer waiting to talk to them.

I really only know a few people that use it, and had resisted getting into it for a long time.

I have created "speed call numbers" for Skype (and other called numbers too). I just use an outbound rule for each party and put the Skype "name" in there. Example... rule Bob Skype, 123, 3 digits long, remove 3 , add bob_skype53434, send out on Skype trunk. I don't use "1" for anything else, so that is why I choose it for the first digit, but you could use anything that wasn't currently being used. I have 100 numbers using this method but , of course, if you had 4 digit dialling , you could have 1000 numbers. Or you could add a second "first" digit.

This saves having to try "dialling" alpha characters. It's a shame that when you set up a Skype account, that you can't be assigned, or choose, a numeric "phone number" as well (no charge).

Leejor,

Ok, looks like we need to use the older, unsupported Skype Gateway over Skype Connect.

Does video calls work for you?

I have never used video calling as all calls come through and go out over standard sets (ATA), or VoIP phones. I haven't attempted any video calls. Besides, it would take too long to prepare for a video call :).

Switched from Skype Connect to Skype Gateway and everything better. Connect is more for one way inbound. Anyway, even have it working on vmWare vSphere 4.0 on ESXi hosts. Able to get incoming Skype calls and can call them back via history on 3CX phone. Video calls I have not tested yet but guessing it won't work.

For those on vmware...had to do these tricks:

1. Install this: http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm#download

2. Tweak powered off 3CX vm vmx file:

sound.present = "TRUE"
sound.virtualDev = "es1371"
sound.fileName = "-1"
sound.autodetect = "TRUE"
sound.startConnected = "TRUE"

3. Power up VM

4. Within Windows Control Panel, Enabled Sound, rebooted server.

Done

Hope this helps.
