Softphone upgrade

The business I work for has 3cx but it seems we are running v16 of the server and softphone. My first question is, if I make the jump from V16 to V18, will my softphones still work, or will I need to upgrade them first. If I have to upgrade the softphones first, does V18 work with v16 server?

If you are an employee of the business, I suggest asking this to your IT person because v18 clients won't work on v16 so your 3CX would need to be updated first.

I am said IT person, I have inherited this setup :-(

do you know about v16 clients working on v18 server? I am trying to find a happy medium given at least with v16 the softphone rarely installs silently on Windows and requires manual intervention so I am kind of expecting the same with v18

V16 clients won't work with V18.

The Windows client has a new version (still a v16 but that works with v18.)

The newer DesktopApp will only work on v18 and does also require to be installed, but it can be done through GPOs.

Once the system is updated, the clients should get a prompt to update their softphones as well.

Just to make sure this is clear as there are a few clients that can be used on windows, if this is the Windows App the users are currently using then it should work just fine on V18 also:



Note: Do bear in mind that this 3CX softphone is being phased out and will eventually be deprecated at some point.

Yes thats the app, is the statement true for mac by chance as well?

We plan on moving away from 3CX, I just want to make sure our server stays active due to the SSL change I read about for the license server and of course being a few major versions out of date

A Mac version of the Desktop App was released in v18 update 3 BETA! https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/update-3-beta/
