SPA/ATA devices

I am looking to add a SPA/ATA device for a fax machine to a 3cx system, I am not seeing any basic 1 port devices listed on the compatible/supported device lists and was wondering what was the most advisable device to use. On other platforms I typically use the Yeastar TA100 for this purpose.

For FAXing I would sooner go with a proper 2 port gateway over an ATA (for added feature-set and reliability). I have used the Grandstream HT701 ATA successfully with 3CX however I believe these are EOL now.

Personally if I had the choice I would go with the Patton 4141 JS (2 port): https://www.patton.com/voip-gateway/sn4140/

Also make your life easier and only used FAX with PBX's which are local to the gateway or across an IPSEC VPN tunnel.

Doesn't it only have an FXS port though? I see the HT813 has botha FXS and a FXO though

You will most likely find that combi units (mixed port types) are not supported by 3CX and will require either a custom template from the provider or manual setup.

I would stick to supported if possible.

Correct. Which is what you need to connect a fax machine to 3CX.

A number of users have reported success with the SPA112 (manual config). Of course when it comes to Fax over VoIP, every install is going to be different .

Fax over VoIP is very sensitive and I would only recommend use of a gateway with 3CX when it is absolutely crucial to the customer business (banks, solicitors etc some can only use FAX for certain documents). If this is the case my recommendations would be.

• Supported gateway.
• Gateway within the local LAN or across a VPN tunnel.
• Supported VoIP provider who supports T.38 (some still do not).
• If not a Supported provider and use G.711 Pass through.

Take note again that the more conversions in the path of a FAX the higher the possibility of delay and delay can cause FAX's to fail, best of luck!
