Teams users calling 3CX users by name

I’m working with a setup where we have a mix of Microsoft Teams users and 3CX users.

Current situation:

• Teams users (who also have a 3CX extension assigned) can call 3CX users using their extension number, and vice versa.
• 3CX users are able to call Teams users by name (presumably via directory lookup).

The challenge:

• Teams users currently cannot call 3CX users by name, only by extension number.

Question:What is the correct way to enable Teams users to call 3CX users by name?

Would this require:

• Creating each 3CX user as a contact/user in Teams (Entra ID)?
• And assigning the 3CX extension as their “business phone” or “line URI” (personal number)?

Or is there a better / recommended approach to achieve name-based dialing from Teams to 3CX users?

If you call a user by name, you're calling their Teams account, not their 3CX extension, period. There's nothing you can do for that beside train users to dial extensions instead.

Shared Contacts could work. I wouldn't bother tho.
