We are running a self hosted 3CX in Debian (Version 18.0 update 5 Build 418). Our client was running into the license limit so we upgraded to 48 SC but it still shows 32 SC in the system and we when we try to refresh the license it says "
3CX failed to establish a TCP connection to activate.3cx.com.
Ensure that the local or border firewalls are configured to allow outbound traffic to activate.3cx.com

From the error message it can only be either (1) your firewall is blocking outbound traffic to the 3CX activation servers, or (2) your DNS cannot resolve "activate.3cx.com", or (3) the 3CX activation servers are all down. I think the most likely case is that you cannot reach the activation servers due to a firewall restricting outbound traffic to the activation servers.

Hi @BryanSterling the issue here is that the pbx was left behind... It has more than one year without being updated.

Running the v18 sp5 the system is not able to communicate with our servers.

Your pbx must be running version 18.0.8.939 in that way you can activate the license key.

@Alejandro_3CX, I'll have to remember that possibility and add it to my mental list. I never let my phone systems get that out-of-date so it was not on my radar :)

This office is 24/7 so it's hard to schedule downtime. It's crazy that it cannot access the activation server because its on Update 5 and not update 8 though.

That being said, any ballpark of how long I should anticipate being down to do a fresh install and restoring a backup just over 1 GB? I know there are a lot of variables but just curious how much I should plan for so we can let our client now. Thanks!

This will depend on the size of backup, hardware used, internet connection. There is not an exactly or estimated time.

You could take a backup without the license key and test by yourself doing the same escenario and check how long does it take to you ;)

But there was enough time to do this...
