Is there any way of doing this with V18?
We are facing the 'upgrade' to V18 from V16, but need to be able to have users run two extensions at the same time due to call queues not having voicemail.
We route call queue calls to a dummy extension to enable this but in trialing V18 with the web client and the new desktop app they tend to sync with whatever extension logs in last.
The only way I can find to do it is to use the old windows desktop client, but how long will this be supported?

Hi @Rich.Hopkins,

If you log in to a Web Client, you can provision the extension to the 3CX Desktop App, then log out of the Web Client and login with another extension. If you don't reprovision the Desktop App, you can have 2 clients logged in at once. You can also open an incognito window and login with another extension there.

Thanks for the reply, but on this test setup, I logged into the web client as ext 200. I then opened the windows app and logged in as ext 201. this then gives a message on the web client of "Disconnected, waiting for network" and then logs in as ext 201. I can't have two different extensions running at the same time unless I use the end of development windows desktop app.

Hi @Rich.Hopkins,

Log in to the Web Client and click the Windows Icon shown below. Install and provision the extension.

Log out of the Web Client now, log in to a new Web Client and you should have the setup shown below:

Yes, followed all of those steps. Now, right click & reload your windows app and tell me if it logs in as the web client extension?

Hi @Rich.Hopkins,

Can we clarify, the (legacy) Windows App, the (new) Desktop App and the Web Client are all things being mentioned here but the only two in play in my example are the Web Client and Desktop App. To confirm, you followed my instructions and you're able to see 2 extensions logged in until you refresh one of them?

I can confirm I am only using the web client and the new desktop app.

I log into the web client as ext 200.
I log into the new desktop app as ext 201.
The web client gives the message "disconnected, waiting for network".
When I close & reopen or right click & reload the web client opens as ext 201.
I have also tried this the other way around by reloading the desktop app, this then opens as whatever extension the web client is logged in as.

I only used the legacy windows app as the possible solution to my problem, but am unsure of the timescale this will be available.

Hi @Rich.Hopkins,

I'll PM shortly regarding this. I'd like to see how you're doing this myself so maybe I can better understand where things are going awry.

UPDATE: @Rich.Hopkins had an AV running which may have been the cause of the Desktop App installation failing. He had the PWA app installed which I removed as he correctly mentioned, it will mimic the Web Client's user login.

Awaiting update as to the installation of the Desktop App.

Thanks for taking a look. I've made the exceptions in Sophos Central, tried again and still not able to install the desktop client. Uninstalled Sophos, rebooted - Still unable. Turned off Windows Defender - Still unable to get the desktop client installed after downloading it 6 times today! Now reinstalling Sophos.

Finally gave up and got it working on a different PC than this Win11 one I've been using. I can confirm the desktop app and web client can both work independently on different extensions on the same PC at the same time. Many thanks for your help Vasili

Fantastic @Rich.Hopkins, I was just installing a new Win 11 VM to confirm. We've got people using Win 11 in house who have done this so it was confusing as to why it didn't work. I guess you'll have to take a look at what is different between the PCs.

Feel free to open a new thread if you require any further assistance or information.
