Hopefully this is in the right forum. I need to plug a working, provisioned Yealink T42 in a foreign country. We have a small network of about 5 phones in a US office. We need to be able to bring 1 phone to, for example, the Philippines and have it work as part of our US office 3CX phone exchange. What settings do I need to adjust to allow this to work? Thank you.

Is your 3cx hosted version? If yes then you do not need to do anything as it can work anywhere. You can test it at your home (outside office network) to try it

You will need to make sure the phone is on the proper firmware before provisioning it. https://www.3cx.com/docs/phone-firmwares/

Assign it to the user in the Philippines and "Connect Directly".

That phone can now be sent anywhere in the world to connect back to the system AND be used as a router phone to connect other devices through it.

Our 3CX is hosted on Amazon. The firmware is correct and not highlighted in red.

The phone works when plugged in anywhere in our city in the US, but when an employee took it to the Philippines (to try to facilitate remote work) it is not working.

The phone has always been set as 'Direct SIP (STUN - remote)' and is still in this setting. There are 4 other settings within the same 'IP Phone' section. Should those be changed or left alone?

You need to connect it as router phone not direct sip (STUN).

To use the phone properly as a router phone, you will need to be on Version 20. I can't remember if the T4xU series of phones could be used as router phones in Version 18.

STUN is just bad news, and yes I am very vocal AGAINST STUN.

Hello, I am now upgrading to version 20. Once this is done, what are the steps to change to 'router phone'? I suppose I should change all the local office phones as well. Thanks.

Separately, I received an error message stating that upgrading from Debian 10 to 12 failed due to not having 2 CPU cores. This must be a setup issue with the Amazon cloud service. Do you know how I can solve this? Thanks.

2 CPU cores has been a requirement for quite a while. Before migrating, please ensure you have followed the checklist https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v20-upgrade-checklist-faq/

You will need to upgrade the host on Amazon's side before upgrading.

It is especially important to have the proper specs, and a system owner account that has a unique email address on the system (not assigned to another user) as well as making sure you have access to the web client of that account before migrating over.

To reassign the phone as a router phone, you will need to just delete it from the user and reassign it as a router phone. Then just reset the phone and it should pick up its configuration automatically.
