On the Mac, notifications can be set per app (Firefox/Chrome) to be a pop-up banner that disappears after 5 seconds, or an alert that requires user intervention to dismiss. Unfortunately the web client is not honoring these settings, so no matter what you do, notifications always disappear. This is important for chat notifications, on the fat client, you can change a setting to have a window pop up on chats, so if the user walks away and comes back they see the chat. On the web client there is no way to mimic this behavior with this bug in place. Just to be clear, other apps/extensions with Firefox and Chrome all honor the notifications setting, and persist on the user's screen until intervention. Same behavior on 10.12 or 10.11.
