What version of each browser supports 3CX Webmeeting

Hi All,

I'm trying to put together some internal documentation regarding exactly which browser support WebMeetings (WebRTC) and from which version.

The 3CX website does not have any detailed information, it just says "Google Chrome, Opera" etc without any specifics.

I have looked on some other websites for clues (e.g. https://caniuse.com/#feat=rtcpeerconnection) however upon testing Firefox version 44 (which is listed as supported), I just get a white screen when I join a meeting, i.e. it doesn't work.

I also noticed that WebMeeting requires Google Chrome version 76 or higher (at least, that's what the error message says) yet I can not find this referenced or documented anywhere?

Is there a reliable reference (e.g. from 3CX) regarding exactly what browsers and which version will work with 3CX webmeetings?

WebMeeting is kept up to date to be compatible with the latest version/s of the browsers it supports. You should always be either on the latest version of a browser on at worst -1 version behind. Anything before that may work but with problems.

The browsers we officially support are: Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Chromium-Edge. More browsers coming to this list soon.


Firefox44 which is listed as supported is a bit misleading. They might just mean it's one of the first versions to support a couple of very basic WebRTC functions for simple 1-1 video calls. WebMeeting uses a lot more than a couple of WebRTC functions and these are constantly updated and old ones are deprecated by the WebRTC & Chromium teams, it's our job to keep up with them.

So again, always use the latest browser version.

Ok that is no problem for my company, however, many of our clients do not support the same policy and may have a different version installed - e.g. some very big, global mining companies. This could be for whatever reason - it doesn't really matter.

It's fine if there is some compatibility issues, however, we need some kind of matrix that outlines what version browser is compatible with what version of 3CX or Webmeetings.

We would be looking for something similar but with 3CX and browser versions.

I'm using Vivaldi, which is of course also Chromium-based. In Vivaldi it works fine as well.

(For those who don't know: Opera was acquired by a Chinese company several years ago and it turned into, well, let's say: something else. Some former Opera employees started Vivaldi a few years back and it has been my favorite browser ever since)
