hello,

for my curiousity - why is admin/management-console default/serverroot for 3cx login instead of webclient ?

users often complain that they can't login because they always forgot /webclient in the url and they don't see that this is NOT a login interface meant for them.

even us admins do wrong from time to time and lock them out themselves.

furthermore, i wonder why admin console is reachable via internet by default at all.

why not making that more secure by default by having a different port for that ? or at least some more hidden url like /admin or /management ?
we could put that behind our firewall then and make it reachable via vpn only.

regards

Users forgetting the URL isnt a 3CX issue.
They have a welcome email with all they need in it.
If they cant remember it, bookmark it, write it down, make it their home page, install the app.

Same for admins.

The fact that the big difference between both portals is staring them in the face.

Depending on where you install 3CX will determine how the console is accessible.

You havent specified your set up at all other then moan about not being able to log in because you're doing it wrong.

If you set up 3CX following the guide, you will find it mentions IP restrictions for the admin console.

sorry, but no. you did not get the point

if you run a intranet portal for 1000 users at https://intranet.mycompany.com , would you expect those 1000 users to remember that they need to navigate to https://intranet.mycompany.com/intranet ?

whereas the 5 intranet admins/editores have their admin/editor login easily accessible at https://intranet.mycompany.com/ ?

i don't know of ANY web based tool/site which defaults to the administrative login when it offers different content/view for end-users at the same time.

that's simply stort-sighted, imho.

furthermore - if you are "john doe end user", what do you think he thinks what's a "3cx management console" ? do you believe that he thinks that's something different from his end-user-interface ? i guess, no. he will think that he can manage his telephony with that.

Alright, then I suggest you take that up with @Nick Galea

If you dont like it, use your own custom FQDN and you can send whatever, wherever you like.

Plus, they're slowly phasing admin features to webclient.. so you never know.. it all might be from the one URL in future.

@rolandkl - I see your response as a bit over the top. But yes its all moving to the one URL. Its just that the management console came before the webclient and the change over was a bit akward for existing customers and partners and we have not yet had time to do it but we want to do it at some point soon yes.

But clearly it makes more sense for the webclient to be default, we know that also.

I remember when it was /management for the MC, but that was a long time ago.

For those that don't want to wait until 3CX completes their work, nginx can do the rewrites for you but it's unsupported.

ok, thanks for explaining.

i'd be though be interested why it's "a bit over the top" if publicly asking for reasons of software behaviour or disclose dissatisfaction, that it's suboptimal from an end-user or (my) admin perspective.

in opensource worlds it's totally normal and beeing called "peer review".

have i been rude at some point ?

did i insult somebody ?

that was not the intention.

doesn't 3cx want to hear what people think about your software or don't you value their feedback?

Obviously, this request only came to the top with the issue with the desktop App. But is there a post/web location to monitor the progress of this feature?
