I have 2 Yealink T41s phones. Both have 2 accounts (extensions) on them.

When I press the DND button on both the Yealink phones I observe strange behaviour when watching the presence screen in the softphone. In the presence screen I see 1 phone showing some kind of stop sign. And the other phone is showing a pink block.

I am not sure how to deal with DND on these phones. Should I use *60/*61 or should I use *30/*32 ?

Hi Rob24h,

When you say 2 accounts, what is the use case for this ? multiple accounts are not supported by 3CX as standard.

This is because (and obviously please inform which you have configured) you would need to either customize and existing template to achieve this or provision the phone with a standard template and manually configure the secondary account.

I myself have experienced odd behavior when using multiple accounts so I would ask yourself whether there is another way to achieve your use case first so that it is supported.

As per the guide however:

To specify DND (Do Not Disturb) for a particular extension:

  • Dial *60 to set the extension to Do Not Disturb: OFF
  • Dial *61 to set the extension to Do Not Disturb: ON
But it does state depreciating for this feature: https://www.3cx.com/docs/pbx-dial-codes/#h.ahjccchce2eb

Have you simply tried creating a BLF for DND status change - do you get the same result ?

Hello @Rob24h

The pink colour is the colour the status changes to if you use the DND button. It is also what happens when you change the status from the client and the management console.
The "Stop sign" symbol is the Do not disturbed that is triggered when you dial *61.
Since having 2 accounts on each device is not a tested and supported scenario i cannot really say what happens in the background once the DND button is pressed.

The whole problem seems to indeed come from the 2 extensions.

The reason why I have 2 extensions is:
extension 1 is a queue member and receives a lot of inbound calls from different queues.
extension 2 is member of only 1 queue, this is the emergency queue (when someone in the building has an accident or heart attack).

When the receptionist is on a call on extension 1 she needs to be able to put this call on hold and react to an emergency asap. That is why we have 2 extensions. When a caller is on extension 2 the receptionist gets a peep in her ear and sees the light of line2 flashing. This way she knows she has a call. I don't see another option for this?

Without testing, and at least in the case of your receptionist requirement however about using shared parking bays for the parking part of the call as well as the feature (which can be found under extensions) of "accept multiple calls".

Its just theory but my thought is that if you were on a call the secondary call (from emergency) would flag up on the phone - you can put the current call in shared parking and answer the emergency.

I have not tested the "accept multiple calls" since v14 however so am unsure what it would display on the incoming call, I would hope the queue name but if not you can enable (under contacts) "Add Group, Queue or DID/DDI Names to Caller ID" possibly.

The queue manager will never poll an extension if already on a call as the "accept multiple calls" option does not apply for queues so the proposed solution will not work.

@YiannisH_3CX

Good point, just a thought.

One for the development partners or Call flow designer perhaps?

The only work around i can think of that does not involve a second account on the phone is to create an emergency extension have the users call that in case of an emergency (or the queue). Then all other extensions that need to monitor this can add that extension as a BLF on their phones. Once the extension starts blinking you simply press the BLF button and you pick up the call.

I will think about a way to handle this emergency extension and will get back to you guys about this.

In the meantime, my activity log shows this when trying to put an extension on DND:

Is this the device with the multiple accounts or does this happen to all devices? This happens when you press the DND button on them?
What version PBX are you running? You can see the exact build number on the dashboard under the information column

This is one of the devies with multiple accounts. And yes, this happens when I press the DND button on the phone.

The PBX is v15.5 SP4 on 3CX debian iso.
15.5.10244.4

Can you remove the second account from the phone, re-provision and try again so we are able to determine if the second account is causing this?

I'm beginning to think this is an error in the firmware of the Yealink T41S.

Today we tested with a Yealink T46P with 2 accounts and everything seems to work fine then.

the phones are different with different firmware. Just because they behave differently in a non supported scenario does not mean that there is something wrong with them.
You could also try to reset the phone and set it up again in case something in the configuration is causing this.

Guys, I'm trying to understand why someone is calling the receptionist during an emergency in the first place. Shouldn't you be encouraging people to dial 911? Perhaps what is really needed is a better notification process for when people dial an emergency number, rather than directing people to dial the receptionist.

Let's reconsider the entire premise of what is needed. For example, the approach we take with our 3CX Emergency (911) Notifier is that you define your emergency numbers, and who should be notified when an emergency number is dialed, and how they should be notified.

Notification options include: phone (text to speech), email, SMS text, and desktop alert. You could, for example, have our add-on call a paging group (including overhead paging) and play a message similar to "An emergency number has been dialed. Matthew Orr has dialed 911. The caller is located at building 2, floor 3, Pillar 100, Cubicle 250. His cell phone number is 123-123-1234. Designated emergency responders go to this location immediately".

We can even designate who is notified based on the location of the person who dialed 911. For example, if you have a school district with a high school, a junior high, and grade schools all sharing the same phone system, you don't want to notify emergency responders at the high school when someone at the grade school dials 911. You designate who is notified by creating extension groups (one for each location)in 3CX and then assigning responders to the extension group.

Can you explain why you are having people call the receptionist?

@voiptoys: in our country this works very different from USA and we each larger organisation has special internal aid teams for these kind of situations. Comparing it to USA would be useless in this case.

As an extra note to the main problem: I am now using *30/*31 codes for the DND buttons.
What we see now in the 3CX phone app is that when a user presses the DND button on Yealink
*31 is dialed and within 1 second it also dials *30. So setting the phone to DND this way seems impossible.

Fair enough. Nevertheless, you could use our desktop alert to notify the receptionist that someone has dialed the emergency queue, as well as the email, phone call, and SMS text.

Can you give me more info about this?

Sure, we can organize a demo, or you can contact me via Skype (VoIPToys) or Skype for Business (my email)
