I'm having an issue upgrading some Yealink T29G phones from firmware 46.83.0.130 to 46.83.0.136. The phone will act like it's taking the firmware upgrade, reboot, disassociate itself from the extension and show up as a New phone in the Phones tab of the 3CX console, then it will reboot AGAIN reverting to the .130 firmware and associate itself with the extension automatically.
I have about 15 of these IP phones spread out over 3 different PBXs. The first site I worked on there was no issue upgrading the firmware.
Has anyone else encountered these issues when working on this model of IP phone? If so, how did you remediate the issues?
Thanks in advance!

If the phones are remote sbc or stun, you have to manually upgrade the firmware on the phones because with the old firmware on the phones it can't talk to the pbx properly.

It has to be getting the old firmware from somewhere correct?

It almost sounds as if you are upgrading it manually from its web UI, and then when it reboots it finds the old version on the PBX and downgrades itself again...

Or perhaps you have Option 66 with TFP somewhere on your network maybe?

John I think you're onto something! My apologies all, I didn't mention that yes I am manually upgrading the firmware. I did try to upgrade the phones firmware from the 3CX console, but it didn't take so I attempted it manually.
I think what you described John is EXACTLY what's happening, but I cannot figure out why some phones are taking the firmware upgrade, while some phones are not.
As far as I know, there's no Option 66 with TFP on this network where the PBX sits. This is the ONLY site we have with this T29G phone, and the customer is pretty staunch on not upgrading the phone system.
I'm just really confused as to why some phones on this network will take the firmware upgrade and others revert back to the firmware that was on them prior to my attempt to upgrade.

What version is your PBX? If you

- have V18 Update 6 or higher (not available for lower versions)
- have added at least one T29G model using our default templates
- the phones are local (ie. provisioned as Local LAN)

..then your PBX would have downloaded firmware version 46.83.0.136 which you have to deploy from the management console.

However if you manually upgrade them, but your PBX has the older 46.83.0.130 version deployed on it, then upon reboot the phone will find it and downgrade itself again.

Hope this helps!

John,
Thanks for your assistance! I am able to now upgrade the firmware of the T29G phones we manage.
