In the phone's web interface in the time & date section there is primary server and secondary server. Is there a way to configure provisioning to use both of those options? I think currently it just puts whatever is in the TIME_NTP_SERVER parameter into both fields.

I need this because I have some phones which don't have internet access and all traffic flows through the PBX server. I need these phones to use the server's local IP address, and I want the remote phones with internet to use pool.ntp.org

Hi Matt,

The only thing I think you could do is create a custom template for this.

My only other thought, is to select the timezone manually under the Extension >> Provisioning.

Unfortnately you cannot use the ctrl + multi select for this however, you will need to configure each extension separately.

eddv123, thanks for replying

All the T46 phones are on a custom template already. Are you saying I should be able to populate both primary and secondary NTP server fields separately in that template? Or are you saying I'd need a separate template for each?

If I should be able to populate both, where would I do that?

I always select timezone in 'ext>phone provisioning' when I first provision a phone, so all phones have timezone set. That unfortunately doesn't force them to have the right time. Right now it's set up so that all phones attempt to get the time from the server's local IP, so the remote phones all revert to 12am after rebooting.

I believe I found it... In the template there is a time settings section where it had this:
local_time.ntp_server1 = %%param::time_ntp_server%%
local_time.ntp_server2 = %%param::time_ntp_server%%

I went ahead and changed it to this:
local_time.ntp_server1 = %%param::time_ntp_server%%
local_time.ntp_server2 = cn.pool.ntp.org

However, this doesn't seem to be changing any setting on the phone. I know the phone is using that template, and I know it's getting both primary and secondary server from the time_ntp_server parameter. It should be taking the server2 time from the template but it's not.

Are you sending the new provisioning after updating the template?
Confirm the settings are there?

Yes, I had told it to reprovision and reboot as well. Then I would log in to the web interface again and it still had the server local IP for both time servers.

Before I saw your reply I just put the secondary server in manually at the web interface and saved it. So far it has stuck after reprovision and reboot, and it displays the correct time.

I tried to go to that link anyway, but not coming up with anything. The provision folder usually looks like random letters and numbers, right? Do I need to include any subfolders below that? Looking on the server itself I can't find any xml files with mac addresses. Should there be?

This was the only remote phone I have access to today, otherwise I'd see if the others were acting the same. I'll be able to check tomorrow

the xml file is created upon request.
the provisioning folder is quite random
the mac address should not have any hyphens or other characters.
works for me fine...
even on remote phone.
