Hello,
Client has a 4 SC Dedicated Pro Hosted by 3CX

They got the following message when they tried to dial out:

"you have reached your maximum call limit"

If 4 SC are active, what happens if a new incoming caller calls in?
Shouldn't the 5th caller go straight to Digital Receptionist?

David

Hi STI-David

Regarding your question, once the limit of the sim calls is reached, no other calls will be allowed into the system, and the caller will hear the prompt that the license limit has been reached.

I would have thought that given that the system is hosted, there would be a facility for this feature.

It's by design. 3CX wants you to buy a larger license.

you should make sure your sip trunk is set to match the sc so customers don’t get the license message calling in.

Good point. They actually are paying for 4 SiP channels. Wonder what would happen if they had 6 channels?

Is there a way to avoid the caller hearing this message, for example, at the sip trunk provider level, where I can set up a failover rule to route caller to a mailbox (on the trunk provider) instead?
The question is, is the incoming call considered 'answered" by 3CX, when there's not enough SC's?

When call #5 and up came in, they would hear the same message.

Not easily. 3CX answers the call to play the message the same way it answers the call to send it to a user. So yes, that incoming call is "answered".

i would do it the other way, have enough SC to cover internal calls plus all SIP trunks.

If you have the channels set correctly on the SIP trunk, it returns a busy message when all channels are in use. That way your caller will hear whatever message your carrier network plays on busy. Trunk channels should always be the same, or lower, than the 3CX license level. Otherwise you will hear the license limit prompt.

If there are two internal calls in progress , and you only have a 4 SC licence, with 4 trunks, the third inbound caller would receive the recording. A 4 SC call licence might be OK for a couple of trunks, or, perhaps even 4, if you rarely had any internal, or outgoing calls.

An active call from extension to extension counts as 1 SC. Calling voicemail, playing a voicemail/greeting, each conference call leg, an external call, etc. are all 1 SC.

Thank you all for your responses.
I will keep number of sip trunk channels equal or less than the SC license, per Sam above.
