The max extension limit will be applied to active licenses or only renewals, upgrades or new keys?

I know this policy effect starts on April 1st, but when limits will actually starting applying?

Regarding your question, please that these details that are listed in the guide:

1st April 2026:These are currently being considered.
  • Upon renewal, every system exceeding the maximum number of extensions / users will be given a grace period to reduce the extensions on the system to the correct amount.
  • Systems in breach will no longer be able to get technical support.

Hi, Charles, i appreciate your reply.

By getting technical support, you mean, not being able to get assistance with you guys over tickets or having our 3CX install not being able to use 3CX FQDN, security and overall updates, get advantage of bultin Let's Encrypt SSL certificate renewal, softphone and other overall features we have available under our license?

Regards,
Rafael da Costa

Once again I feel 3CX management does not take into consideration all business types. For example, I keep saying not all businesses are 9am to 5pm, some are 24x7 which means installing updates with only a 2-week warning is difficult. Or, not all businesses have a need to use the softphone client or web-phone, our business model works best with desk phones. And now with "extension limits", 75% of our extensions are for analog warehouse phones, phones that are scattered throughout our 1 million sq. ft warehouses. These phones are blocked from making outbound calls, they mostly exist for 911 emergency calls, on occasion they get used for overhead pages thru the paging system.

I really think 3CX should take this into consideration, if an ext. is blocked from making outside calls, it should NOT be included in the extension count. As for the other 25% of the extensions, this covers a 24 hour shift as to 8 or 10 hour, people on a night shift need a desk phone like people on a day shift, which means if we hit 8 simultaneous calls on any given day (internal & external calls together) I would be surprised, 4 to 6 is our avg. high-water mark. And yet we now have to upgrade to a 48 SIM license? How come 3CX doesn't look at call usage to calculate pricing?

If most of your phones are just for emergency, why not use one extension for all this phones? Phones are not limited, only extensions.

1 million sq. ft warehouses must cost a lot? big operating then? Sounds like they can afford the upgrade :D

I'm guessing you are not located in the USA and if you are I'm guessing you only deal with small businesses or never consider the 911 laws like Kari's Law or Ray Baum's Act. I know this wasn't a concern for 3CX years ago as I posted may issues until they made changes to the system.

If a 911 call gets disconnected, EMS will call back the TN (DID) they received. 150 phones ringing, good chance someone else will pickup that call, seconds count when someone is injured, having heart issues, etc.

We are required to section our buildings into zones and from there narrow down a location (east, west, floor #, shipping, receiving...) so EMS can identify where the 911 call is coming from, it also helps our internal security team, for dispatching. All phones, including warehouse analog phones, are assigned a DID. Each DID is then assigned a location identifier. This same location information is loaded into an E911 service provider and this is how the "location" gets pushed to EMS.

Perhaps 3CX could come up with a different "role" other than "user" that would apply. Or a different licensing model. Already using a 32 SIM license and our high water mark is around 4 to 6 SIM calls.

Unfortunately your only option is to do what btn2 said or up your license.

I understand, no i am from Germany. But anyway, the price difference from 32 to 48 isnt that big. Maybe you can group some of the phones to get under the licence limit?
