Hi there,
I have version 20.0.8.1121 installed on Linux. Problem is that My ISP has changed static IP address that is registered with FQDN for my on prem install. I was trying to log in into admin console. Password reset does not work. I know that 3cx changed access rights for newer version, and I do not remember that I dedicated extention for admin access. I can log into linux, and 3cx works fine. Any ideas how to bypass this? Thanks a million.

Hi @vceklic

Do you remember which extension is assigned as the System Owner? Try logging in using either the email address associated with that extension or the extension number itself.

You should also try accessing the 3CX system through its private IP address from a device on the same network segment. That private IP should not have changed when your ISP updated the public static IP.

When you select “Reset Password” for other extensions, does it work?

Another useful test is to access 3CX directly through the private IP address and check whether you can log in that way.

If you have a backup file, you can look at the .xml file and search for the extension with the system owner role.

Password reset from the login page requires an email address not used by another extension.

Thanks you for your help. Here is part from xml:
<Member DN="100" IsPrimary="true">
<role name="system_owners" />
</Member>
Then, under <Extention> <EmailAddress>[email protected]</EmailAddress> I tried reseting that account, bit no email is reaching my mailbox. Internet is working fine on this box. Would you have any other clues?

That’s the only time that email appears in the file?

What were you using for the SMTP settings?

I have once more email address and I tried both, same result. It shows that it will send, but nothing goes to mailbox. I cannot remember that I set SNTP, so it might be using 3CX. How can I check?

In the same document, search for the <mailServerType> tag. It should be located near the end of the XML file.

If you are using the built-in 3CX mail service, verify that your firewall allows the following outbound connection:

SMTP Service – Cloud Service for SMTP Messages
Host: mailproxy.3cx.com
Port: 443
Protocol: TCP
Direction: Outbound

Also, make sure that Google’s DNS servers are configured:

  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4
Did you perform the test I mentioned in my previous comment? Please check whether the password-reset email is successfully delivered to other users or email addresses.

Sorry I was away for few days. Thanks for your finding about SMTP not being provided. Shell I try to find and edit <mailServerType> in config file?

That’s correct. However, you’ll need to configure a custom SMTP server, as the 3CX SMTP service is not available with the 4SC Free edition.

Use 7-Zip File Manager to edit the backup file. Once you’ve made the necessary changes, restore the backup by following the official instructions:

3CX Backup and Restore via Command Line
