Hi all - I manage a group of 3cx systems and also use it in my own business. I have been wrestling with SMS on our system and our clients' systems for years and wanted to make a post to see if others share the same head-scratching moments as I do. I often ask myself - do the people who make 3CX use 3CX for their own phone system? Because if they did, surely they would experience some of the functionality gaps and it would drive them crazy too.
Here's what I'm talking about:
  • Let's start with what I'm thankful for! I'm very grateful pictures can be sent and received - that's very helpful.
  • Transfer to a queue - if someone's status is unavailable they won't be on the group that receives it, and they're removed going forward even if their status changes back to available
    • I have my exec group of 4 who I want aware of most SMS threads so anyone can jump in and respond, this is extremely disruptive as often 1 of us is in an unavailable state
  • Often if someone is in a queue and has an SMS that's just between them and the outside party - we'll want to transfer it into the exec queue - but every once in a while (and we haven't found out what conditions are consistently making this happen) that transfer will cause the SMS to go to the queue - but the sender doesn't see it and isn't part of that thread.
  • There is no group SMS - others have mentioned this, but not being able to include multiple external numbers is challenging
  • Lack of automatic response SMS - this feels like basic functionality for a system as mature as 3cx
Anyone else have these issues?

Do people use alternative systems for business SMS and that's why there's no response?

Hi,

We are seeing the requests and suggestions you are making - generally to gain traction with such matters a post in the Ideas forum section helps, as people can upvote. As with any part of the PBX, improvements and new features are always in the pipeline, but I don't have any specifics to share. But we do plan to expand the messaging abilities of the system.
