on SPA504G, I have selected a specific ringtone for all lines and for all the phones in the office, yet when calls come from outside (SIP Trunk and delivered to extensions through ring group), 3CX forces the phones to ignore the set ringtone and instead ring the factory default ringtone (CLASSIC-1.) I do not need distinctive ringing, as you see that I only choose a single specific ringtone for all the phones for all their lines. Why 3CX forces the phones to ring only and only one specific ringtone and ignore what the phone is set with?

The reason I am saying that 3CX is responsible, because on any other IP PBX, this issue does not exist. On Asterisk, Cisco UC560, if I go to the phone and change the ringtone for lines, that is in effect no matter where the call is coming from, external or internal.

I have contacted 3CX support, and they keep sending me towards distinctive ringing section. I don't think I have to go that direction, I am not asking how to configure distinctive ringing per caller ID number or have any condition for ringing. All i am trying to do is to not use the ugly sounding default ringtone of SPA5xx phones.

Someone, please help. This has been going on for 6 months now, and after months of reading online, I am still nowhere close to solving this. MY CLIENTS HATE ME BECAUSE I CAN"T NOT CHANGE RINGTONE ON THEIR PHONES. This is a basic feature, isn't it?

Thanks, Shuja

If you don't want 3CX to control the ring tones then you will need to remove distinctive ringing section from the template.

it would look like this

<!--########################################################-->
<!--### Distinctive ringing ###-->
<!--########################################################-->

<!--# Setting for distinctive ringing base on altert info -->
<!--# info=external call from external line (no reformatting has been applied)-->
<!--# info=international call from external line, reformatting detected international call-->
<!--# info=national call from external line, reformatting detected national call-->
<!--# info=local call from external line, reformatting detected local call-->
<!--# info=queue call from queue-->
<!--# info=ivr call from IVR-->

<Ring1 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">n=Classic-1;w=3;c=1</Ring1>
<Ring2 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=external;w=3;c=2</Ring2>
<Ring3 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=international;w=3;c=3</Ring3>
<Ring4 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=national;w=3;c=4</Ring4>
<Ring5 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=local;w=2;c=1</Ring5>
<Ring6 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=queue;w=2;c=2</Ring6>
<Ring7 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">h=ivr;w=2;c=3</Ring7>
<Ring8 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">n=Simple-4;w=2;c=4</Ring8>
<Ring9 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">n=Simple-5;w=2;c=5</Ring9>
<Ring10 group="Phone/Ring_Tone">n=Office;w=4;c=1</Ring10>

This should never have taken 6 months to resolve as its a 5 min job and 3CX has pointed you in the correct direction.

unless you remove it from the template, it will disregard what you set on the actual phone itself.
