Please help.

My license expired and I want to enter a new license key but its giving me this error.
3CX failed to establish a TCP connection to activation.3cx.com.
Ensure that the local or border firewalls are configured to allow outbound traffic to activation.3cx.com

Nothing changed on the firewall. I did a nslookup on the server

root@vansa3cx20b:~# nslookup
> activation.3cx.com
Server: 192.168.1.253
Address: 192.168.1.253#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: activation.3cx.com
Address: 151.80.125.88

Any port I need to allow to go out to the server? On the firewall check it is all GREEN.

Please advise as I'm trying to enter new license key.
Server running: 16.0.4.504
Linux vansa3cx20b 4.9.0-12-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.210-1+deb9u1 (2020-06-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux

3cx updated the server certificates on their end. Your old copy does not trust the server because it does not recognize the newer certificate.
You likely got an email warning you to update before a certain date or the communication to the activation server would become broken.

to fix it yourself, just do a full backup and reinstall your 3cx appliance to latest version and restore your backup. Obviously that is trivial if you have virtualized and harder if you have not.

You can contact support for assistance if you want more hand holding:

that is not good. doesn't the system automatically update itself? I set it to auto update every sunday. My license expired on the 2/20. so I reached out to my reseller and renew it. but they says my license was converted back to free edition. so they are doing an upgrade on the free license now to the pro version.

Anyway. I cannot activate any license now because it cannot contact the activation server. Is there a way to upgrade it manually on the linux prompt? Please advise.

Or the only way is to spin up another vm? install the latest 3cx and restore backup?

Chris,

Thank you!! that command worked!! without having to reinstall the OS :). Now I can get to the activation server. I checked the license but it still say standard version. My reseller upgraded it to the Pro version just a few mins ago. Please advise on how to see the update. I click on the license and click on refresh license but same thing. does it take some time to populate?

Hey @Song

Glad to hear you got it working! For the License Key Edition matter, I would recommend contacting your reseller again to confirm.
