Hi fellows!

I am dealing with a new challenge. I have a request to make 3CX softphone work with TAPI drivers in a Windows Server 2019, RDS (Remote Desktop Services). I have already installed “3CX App for Windows”, Microsoft Outlook and “3CX Multi Line TAPI” on the server. I can run them from a user’s profile, but I can’t place a call via the softphone.

The softphone is configured and registered to the 3CX PBX and I can see the statuses of the other extensions as well. I can accept calls, but I can’t place calls from the softphone. It shows me for a moment the dialing procedure and immediately goes back to the list and shows at the top right corner the message “Call failed”. After a second or something it comes back to “On Hook” status.

I would like to ask if someone else has installed successfully 3CX softphone in a RDS 2019 and proved that works also fine.

Thanks in advance for your time...

In the Settings of the App, does it detect all 3 sound devices? Also bear in mind that the 3CX Phone and Web Client are not recommended to run in an RDS environment.

Hi NickD!

Yes, the 3CX App recognized the sound devices of the local computer. I can see them under "Audio Options".

So, what should I assume? That it will not work in an RDS environment?

Try going to the and selecting "Exit Client" and make sure it disappears from the notifications area (don't restart the session or PC). Wait a few seconds, then try launching it again.

If this does not do the trick, then you could try having a look in the log file which you can find here:
%appdata%\3CXPhone for Windows\Logs\
