Hello!
I have question about whether 3CX cloud can provide a survivability mode where if internet were to go down onsite that users would still be able to dial users onsite etc or would the phones lose their registration and thus be unable to be used locally?

Thanks!
Dave

Hi

I'm afraid this will not be possible as access to the 3cx system is required even for internal calls. If the 3cx system or 3cx start-up is unreachable due to your network/internet connectivity being down, the SBC will unregister along with the Ip phones.

Hi Charles.
So would it be possible to do with any configuration of 3cx or is there no way to do with 3cx?

Thanks!
Dave

You can run 3CX in your office.

You can install an on-premises system, on a local server, and have the users on desk phones.
This solves the issue of phones going down if the internet goes down.
However, that's only half the story. Yout SIP trunks will also need internet to work otherwise nobody from the outside world can reach you. The only solution to this is to use analog phone lines over a gateway, but its not a great solution and you might not be able to get access to analog lines. What's worse, if you also lose power, all the above stops working regardless.

I can propose another solution that might work better: keep 3CX in the cloud, and have the users install the 3CX app on their mobiles. Even if the internet goes down, even if the power is lost, and even if the entire building is inaccessible due to fire or other, you still have access to your phones over 4G. This is highest form of survivability, because the cloud machine is always up 24/7, and everyone nowadays has a small, battery powered, internet-enabled smartphone on their person at pretty much all times.
