Ahhhh yes, the intermediate exam. Why is it that this exam resembles that of a college course? The fact that all of the questions/answers come "right off the slides" is a blatant and complete farce. I've had plenty of college professors in my day tell me "ahhh don't worry about the exam, study the slides and you'll be fine." And that may very well be, and usually when exams are designed with this format in mind, I pass or have passed. How couldn't you? If 75% of the material on the test comes straight from the slides, everyone should at minimum get a 75% (C on the grading scale). This would be considered passing, anywhere you went in the United States.

Now, here's where 3CX and Colleges differ. 3CX considers a 25/30 to be passing, basically deducing that the percentage for a "Pass" is an 83.33%. Now, apply that same concept to school or college and you're all of a sudden hit with a ton of bricks. How can, what is considered to be a "B-," be the minimum passing grade? That's outrageous - and not for this reason alone, but because of the fact that they tell you "All info comes from the slides," when in fact, it doesn't. 25% of the questions can't be answered from the slides or if having access to a 3CX system.

Call me lazy, call me insane, call me outright foolish. This is completely ridiculous. I shouldn't have to spend hours looking over the same 8 slideshows just to answer 25 questions correctly. I mean how many times can you actually "look at the slides?" They can be looked at during the exam for crying out loud, and the question even tells you the section from which the question stems. So honestly, how beneficial is "looking over the slides." Sounds like a massive waste of time on something that doesn't really matter in the long run. In fact, I'm starting to think 3CX is just that. A waste of time.

I'll admit it's surprising to see a gold partner with this line of thinking. The exam is tough - I've done it like 4 times in past few years (switching companies and my login was tied to old company) - but there is a trick to it. The trick being to read the question exactly as it's written - slowly if need be - because 3CX loves to change 1 word that changes the answer completely. A second trick is to remember that the right answer and the 3CX answer can differ - and you want to provide the 3CX answer.
My first basic exam (5 year ago) I flunked and 30 days later, using these tricks, passed all 3 in 1 sitting.

83% being a passing grade, while not what college does, is perfectly within 3CX's choice to set as the minimum passing grade. Honestly when I'm selecting a vendor to install a product I want the installer to know the product backwards and forwards. I want 100%. Additionally, that installer represents the product (if installed poorly a user can end up thinking the product is bad) and 3CX likely wants to maintain an image of a quality product.

Good luck if you choose to re-sit the exams

I think the 25/30 is fairly common with a lot of this stuff. Prior to selling 3CX we exclusively sold NEC phone systems and you had to be certified to get any support. Wanted to start using SIP trunking you better have the base system, advanced system and SIP trunking certification. I got lucky and came on after testing was moved to online at $25/exam as when we started selling it you had to take time off, fly to the training center and pay for the trip/classes.

Best of luck on your next attempt.

A passing score of 25/30 (83.3%) is fairly common in some tests, and I have even heard of exams (not 3CX) where the pass mark is 90%.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 3CX exams are roughly equivalent to open book exams. You can have any reference material you want and take as long as you like when doing the exam (I've never heard of a college that gives you unlimited time on an exam). What is being tested is your understanding of 3CX and their system. When I did the exams I had a browser with the slides, the slide transcripts and other 3CX reference pages (including an operation 3CX installation) open and would regularly check through them to work out the answer.

For the record: I worked with a lady who managed to get 100% on the advanced exam (Yes, I witnessed her do it)!

For those that think 100% is a lie, I present:
