3CX Update Servers

Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to install 3CX on an SDSLM circuit that's used solely for voice, there's no internet access at all. The router is connected to another router which does have internet access so I'm hoping to setup a static route to access the 3CX servers. Does anyone have experience of setting this up on an SDSLM circuit? Is there a range of IP addresses I can set the route to?

I would probably do it the other way round, set the default route on the 3CX machine to the router with internet access, and create routes for the sip traffic or fqdn of your sip provider to the other router.

This way if you have remote users, the fqdn will point to the internet wan ip address.

Thanks Saqqara. I've setup a static route to the internet router so the 3cx machine now has internet access. During setup the public IP address is obviously identified as the address associated with the VDSL circuit. Should I continue with that address or input manually the IP address of the SDSL circuit?

I would change public IP address to the internet wan IP address (not the VDSL circuit) - Settings - Network - Public IP. This way any remote users can access / authenticate with the 3CX server using 3CX provided FQDN (if using it)

You may have to change the SIP IP address Post#5 - https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/3cx-pbx-problem-with-rtp.63655/#post-268863, to be the VDSL IP address.

If you have everything working,

All traffic from the 3CX server should go down the internet access router - Https, DNS, http, etc.

All sip traffic to your SIP provider should go via the VDSL circuit - you can check by do a tracert command to the SIP provider IP / FQDN address.

Think you might have things the wrong way round, I might've confused the issue. The VDSL circuit is the data circuit and has internet access. The SDSL circuit is voice approved with no internet access. So just to clarify, leave the public IP address as the setup recognises it (IP address of the vdsl circuit with internet access) and route SIP traffic to the provider?

As the 3CX server has internet access leave everything alone,. just make sure the public IP address is the VDSL wan IP address.

Now you need to route SIP traffic for your SIP provider using IP address or FQDN down the SDSL circuit.

Do you have one router protecting both links - in which case it is easy by adding static routes on the router.

Both links have their own router but static routes set so they can both talk to each network. The 3cx server has internet access and the 3cx FQDN resolves to the public IP, so we're all good there.

In order to send SIP traffic down the SDSL circuit is it just a case of changing the IP address in the SIP options to the public IP address of the SDSL router?

Routing of the SIP traffic is done at the router or 3CX server - not by changing the IP address in the SIP options.

On the VDSL router, you need to add routes to push all traffic to the SIP provider server IP / FQDN.
i.e. If you SIP provider server is 3cx.sip.com you need to create a route to push all traffic to 3cx.sip.com to the SDSL router lan IP address.

As above this can be tested by doing an tracert command - tracert 3cx.sip.com , on the response you should see the SDSL lan IP address.

On the SDSL router, route all incoming traffic to 3CX server.

You only need to change the IP address in the SIP options to the public IP address of the SDSL router, if your SIP traffic does not flow correctly.

Are you running Microsoft OS ?. if so you can add the routes directly on the 3CX server using the route command - https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/adding-a-tcpip-route-to-the-windows-routing-table/

Quick update/enquiry regarding the firewall settings. I've opened all the recommended ports on the VDSL router and 3CX passes the firewall test fine. I'm just wondering which ports I should open on the SDSL router? I'm assuming just the ports for the SIP traffic?

Yes, just the sip ports which should be 5060 as this route will only handle the sip calls.
