Hello Everyone,

We’ve successfully accessed the 3CX admin console locally in the past. However, after attempting to reset the admin password, no confirmation email was received — likely because our PBX is configured for LAN-only use with restricted internet access. It seems the password was changed, but we can no longer log in.
Since email-based password recovery isn’t an option in our environment, could anyone kindly guide us on how to reset the admin password directly from the server (via CLI), or using any offline method that works with 3CX v20?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated — we are currently locked out of the admin console.
Thank you in advance!

There are no supported way to reset the passwort without email. Anyway, the 3cx isnt build to work without internet.

As a bare minimum you should allow access to the Activation server, the updates server, and the SMTP server of 3CX.

Even if you dont want to use the system for external use, allow at least those.

These are OUTGOING connections that the PBX will initiate as needed for it to function.

your attempt does not contradict the requirements

  1. Reset and request for a new password or
  2. change a know password into another?
That's the question. There's a difference.

But let's be honest:
  • for the first case, there are enough ways documented here in the forum to get sysowner access to a 3CX, assuming you have at least a backup or shell access to create one
  • for the second case: simply change it - assuming you enabled the option to change user passwords

I don't understand the purpose either: a 3CX thrives on being operated online. That's where the advantages come into play.

If the external email server bothers you, why don't you use your own? That should be easy to do. This definitely controls the email traffic of a 3CX - especially your requirement about password recovery via email. Or do you have a problem paying for the many useful features of a commercially available 3CX that allows you to configure the SMTP server unlike the free edition?
