Hi,

I've recently switched back to a Mac and thought I'd give the webclient of 3CX a try as the 3CX App frequently crashes on my new M1 Mac Mini.
Unfortunately, whenever I try and use the Webclient on my M1 Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.2.2 in Edge Version 88.0.705.81 it completely crashes Edge. The whole application just closes.
I've removed and re-added it but still have the same problem.
I have tried it and it works fine in Chrome but now I have to have Chrome open just to use 3CX? Not too excited about that.
Any pointers as to troubleshooting Edge would be appreciated.

We dont have an app for the mac so you cant claim it crashes. Yes, use Chrome, the number one and most reliable browser.

Ummm... so what's this thing then?

Not sure how I should take this... one the one hand it's refreshing to see the CTO and founder of a company posting on the community forum.
On the other hand - that response though... not sure how to interpret it.
I guess I could respond with... why not make an extension that works on the browsers your customers choose to use?

hi @andy.vdg,

"Ummm... so what's this thing then?" The Mac version was deprecated years ago and is not supported. Mac users must use the Web Client and browser extensions.

Ok - slightly confusing as I literally downloaded it form your website about a month ago. It looks like you remedied this as the download link is no longer there.
You might also want to remove the V14 one here: Download the latest version of the 3CX MacOS client
So to summarize - I can't use the client (which incidentally works but does crash every once in a while) because it's end of life. I have to use the webclient which currently does not work in Edge. Are there any plans to get it working in Edge - being based on Chrome that shouldn't be all too hard?

Thank you for pointing out the V14 download link, we'll see what we can do but I do have to point out that the blog post is from 2016, so anything that old should be taken with a grain of salt.

I've tested on MacOS Big Sur v11.2 using Edge (Chromium) v88.0.705.81 which works perfectly when logged in to the Web Client and also by using the Browser Extension, which doesn't require the browser to stay open to receive calls, however this Mac isn't using the M1 chip, so I'm thinking it may be a problem specific to your hardware.

My suggestion would be using Chrome as it's stable.

Found this thread by google since I'm suffering the same problem on my m1 mac with Edge.

Got to say, "We dont have an app for the mac so you cant claim it crashes" is pretty harsh. I guess what you mean is "sadly we no longer support the app for mac so recommend everyone now uses the web extension". (which is annoying since I prefer the app but that's another story)

...and final comment, it's one thing to get rid of a nice app and go to the browser, but if you're going to do that, at least please try and support a decent range of browsers rather than forcing people to use your favourite.

Although true that Chrome has been nice, stable, popular, it's also been a real resource hog particularly on the MAC and Edge is increasing in popularity week on week.

So, I would suggest someone test it on the M1 Macs and hopefully fix it.

I think you'll find that Microsoft Edge generally has problems on the new M1 Mac, a Google search should reveal such reports as recent as 6 days ago.

The new Edge is Chromium-based, so I don't think that the resources used would be all that different.
Also on a brand new M1, I doubt the resources the WebClient uses in Chrome would be something that it can't handle...

Nope, we support many thousands of desktops around the world, lots of extensions. I'm not saying they all work 100% on the new edge, but most do and 3cx crashes the whole browser (something which I agree shouldn't be possible really and that's as much on microsoft as 3cx)

Microsoft edge itself has a specific M1 version and it's been rock solid for us. Indeed our feedback from our latest user research last week was that it's the fastest growing browser within our user community (and we haven't pushed them at all)

The new edge is chromium engine based yes but is well known for using far less ram on the mac something which Chrome have said they're busy addresses right now (saw an article on it just this morning)

and the brand new M1s have 8GB (or 16GB custom order) so memory is a premium.

Either way, sorry but if you're forcing everyone to go web, you need to be supporting the latest and greatest web browser not saying to everyone use the one we prefer.

ps. for anyone else on a mac, I actually think 3cx works best on safari (which is unusual for me!) it doesnt pop out a new window, rather it call up a quite cute little pane inside the main safari window.
As much as the world is moving to Edge and I hope 3cx change from "use the one I tell you" to "we'll work on supporting edge" actually for once, safari is a nice alternative for this use.
