I have been toying with this connection for hours. I have sql 2014 su4 (12.0.6433.1) running on Server 2021 R2 with port 1433 exposed. Have 3cx v18 updated hosted. Connection test says it connects then fails with error 31 - Encryption(ssl/tsl) handshake failed.

Steps taken:
1. updated sql to the latest versions
2. set force ssl on protocol for sql
3. tested the connection from other sources.

Not sure what I am missing here. Any assistance is appreciated.

SQL Server 2014 is too old and doesn't support TLS 1.2. You should use a newer database.

Ok. Since we have all the updates for SQL Server 2014 and the OS, I will look at the .net 4.6 to see if that's the cause.

So the issue is age? Ok. I will try a newer sql instance and see if that works.

Check the link I posted. It has multiple steps to bring 2014 to TLS 1.2. And yes, .NET 4.6 might be needed but it's always a good thing to have installed.

Checked on everything and It's still not working. Setting up a SQL 2019 instance now to see if that connects.

3CX uses .NET Core, so having .NET 4.6 or not will not change anything.

I would try with a newer database.

Oh This was for the sql server NOT the same server as 3CX. Anyway. I ended up testing a new install of server 2019 with sql 2019 and it works. However it does not provide the data needed for proper journaling. Does anyone know how to get DID information for inbound calls to the Journal?
