We have a couple of remote extensions which we may connect an analog gateway in their office for local dialing. We are wondering if it is possible to setup multiple 911 routing rules. Meaning, if someone on a remote extension (in a different city) dials 911 we can tell that call to go through their local gateway.

Basically, we are hoping to be able to setup outbound rules based on the extension dialing and what number they are dialing.

Thank you for your help.

You can specify which extensions any of the outbound rules apply to. With something as critical (when needed) as 911 (or any other emergency access number) it should be tested for routing, especially when there is more than one route. If you place actual calls out on the trunks, stay on the line to let emergency services know you are making a test call, or you may have the police knocking at your door.

The other thing with emergency numbers, to keep in mind...some people, not familiar with an office phone system where you have to dial a access digit may just dial 911 and not 9-911, it is best to make allowances for both scenarios.

Create outbound rules for the specific extension, beginning with 911 and 3 digit long, strip 3 digits and prepend the number for the local police department (local to them) areacode+number.
