Access voicemail remotely

I'm running 3CX Version 20.0 Update 5 (Build 551 Release)

I have an extension where Voicemail PIN Authentication is enabled under the Voicemail tab. However, I also have another extension where Voicemail PIN Authentication is turned off.

When I try to access the voicemail of the extension with PIN authentication enabled, I dial 6666,extension,PIN#, but it just says "no messages," even though there are messages. However, if I enable Voicemail PIN Authentication on the extension I'm dialing from, it works as expected.

Is there a way to prevent this? It seems odd that accessing voicemail on an extension with PIN authentication enabled depends on the calling extension also having PIN authentication turned on.

Thanks!

If you dial 6666 from the extension with the PIN auth turned off, it will always play the VM of this ext only. so it's this extension you're checking for.

Yes, that’s correct—I understand that part. Here’s the situation:

My extension is 3011, and I have PIN authentication turned off for my voicemail. When I dial 6666, it goes straight to voicemail, which is expected.

Now, I have another extension (4000) that does have a voicemail PIN, and I need multiple people to access this mailbox remotely from their own phones. To make this easier, I set up a speed dial like this: "6666,4000,pin#".

The idea is that this sequence should:
  1. Dial 6666
  2. Enter "4000" to access that mailbox
  3. Enter the PIN followed by "#"
This works only if voicemail authentication is turned on for the extension I’m calling from. Otherwise, I just get a "no messages" response.

As soon as I enabled voicemail PIN authentication for my extension (3011), I was able to access the mailbox at 4000 using that speed dial. But if I turn off voicemail PIN authentication for 3011, it stops working and just says "no messages."

Hope that makes sense!

the only way you could do this is have them call in from external (to a DID).

The DID will go to an IVR and from this IVR they can then dial 6666 or you could play prompt "press 1 for voicemail" and have a speed dial to 6666 then they should be able to log in.

@ahmed24 - one other option would be to enable voicemail to email and have the registered email for extension 4000 be a forwarding email. This way any voicemails that come into this extension will automatically be forwarded to the group that you designate.
