Hello,

I just set up a new 3cx server with a Pro license to migrate our standard server to. We need to set up a new server b/c we are changing the domain/DNS name of the server and in order to do this 3cx requires you set up a new server (in case anyone asks). Everything seems to be functioning ok including the softphones- can call out etc. However, there is one odd issue- in the console, when you access an extension and go to the Phone Provisioning tab, when I click the "Add" button to add a desk phone, nothing happens. The only thing that happens is that there is a graphical "blip" at the top of the screen where the "Add Phone" box would normally appear. Hopefully it is just something I forgot to do or am unaware of that someone can point me to.

Thanks

Hi @phonecheese,

What server are you installing 3CX on?

Can you provide a screenshot of this graphical blip?

What browser are you using?

Thanks for the reply- sorry, should have included that info.
Firefox (other 3cx server works on it)
Debian

The blip is too quick to take a screen shot of. it is pretty much just like the "Add Phone" box is going to appear but stops immediately.

Hi @phonecheese,

Can you test this on Google Chrome, using an incognito window?

I just tried this and got the same result.

At this point, I am guessing it is a permissions issue. My auto-updates have been failing, so I tried to manually update and got an access denied as you can see in the pic below:

What should the permissions be on the folders and items 3cx needs access to? These are the current perms:

I am guessing the Add Phone issue I am seeing is probably the same. Probably trying to access a folder or file where the templates or something are stored...?

Thanks

I had the genious idea of checking the other system and found that phonesystem user is chowned for all those files... Not srue why I didnt think of hecking there sooner. i will update to let you know if this is the issue.

How did you install 3CX ?

Did you use the 3CX ISO image ? , I not I suggest you backup the existing setup and reinstall using the 3CX iso image as you do not known what else is wrong with the installation

3CX Debian ISO image - https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/installing-debian-linux-pbx/
The VM is in Azure, so I used the 3CX image in Azure to create the VM. i suppose there could be something wrong with the image that 3CX provided to Azure.

So fixing the permissions fix the update issue, but the intial issue of not being able to add phones via the Add button remains.

Only 3CX can answer this question.

I was thinking about this while doing other things and remembered I was supposed to run the initial config script with the phoneuser account. I believe the issue must be there. I will do a reinstall and see if that fixes it.

Hi, I can’t help with your initial question, but if you crack that issue you may come across the same issue I faced yesterday since I too set up a new VM on Azure using the 3CX image from Azure. Having provisioned a phone there was no audio. The issue was that the 3CX image did not open all the required firewall ports. Once I figured out the problem it was quick and easy to fix but maybe worth mentioning in case you get the same issue.

Hi @phonecheese,

You should follow @Saqqara's advice and install the VM using the 3CX ISO. This will ensure all permissions are correctly configured from the get go. Try and install using our ISO (link above) and see if the issue persists.

@Derekbreth, did you follow the guide? https://www.3cx.com/docs/pbx-azure-marketplace/ - step 9 talks about your firewall ports. More on ports here: https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/
Hi, no I never found that one! I have bookmarked it in case I need it again so thanks for that. Incidentally I had to use the Azure marketplace option since the wizard in 3CX would not let me create the Azure VM in South Africa, whereas the one in the marketplace does. ANyway all sorted so thanks for the assistance.

Glad to hear you've sorted it out.

Lekker dag @Derekbreth!

The ISO is essentially the same as the 3cx image in Azure. The issue was forgetting to run the initial configuration script with the phonesystem user. I just removed the old configs with /usr/sbin/3CXWizard --cleanup and then ran the intial configuration script with phonesystem user. Another caveat to note is that you need to chmod the cert files at 644 so that the phonesystem user can read them when running the initial config script.

Glad you've managed to get it working @phonecheese, feel free to open a new thread if you require any further assistance.
