Hi Team,

Hoping someone can help with this quick one.

Where would I find the equivalent of 'rights' in v20?

I would like to enable users to be allowed to add to the Company address book, and I can't seem to figure it out.

3CX have certainly taken a major "downgrade" path in V20. I strongly agree with @balans in saying 3CX has no idea what works inside a business and they're just making generalised assumptions. This is the first time since we started using 3CX, that we're now seriously investigating other alternative telephony systems.
I strongly agree with you

i think this can't be done with the current roles and departments

The solution would be to implement department specific phonebooks, separated from the global phonebook

I also noticed "phonebook" is not mentioned in roles guide, while it should be... that's why i'm here

Perhaps the V20 Update 3 will contain a solution to this problem. I sincerely hope that 3CX responds to feedback. It would be a shame if the feedback from productive environments and working methods were not incorporated into the product, even though the product is precisely for this target group...

Hi All,

Is there any result of the correspondence?
It is mandatory to switch to the V20 version and more and more complaints come from my customers that the V20 is a step back in terms of handling. What kind of thing is it that the administrator has to manage the phone book? The management of rights is a completely messed up concept, it is not possible to manage rights individually or in groups.

This is absolutely unworkable for small organizations. In our own organization, it used to be possible for a service desk employee to add a contact. Now, all service desk employees need administrator rights to do this. In terms of security, we have significantly regressed with this new version

Also chiming in on this. We have an issue with an organization's manager. She needs the ability to manage queue users (add/remove/reorder), but she also needs the ability to add company contacts. The lowest permission that allows both is System Administrator which gives her access to way too many buttons that could break things.
Here's a list of the roles and the results as of version 20.0 Update 3 (Build 796):
Code:
User
    Cannot manage queue users
    Cannot add company contacts

Receptionist
    Cannot manage queue users
    Can add company contacts

Department Admin
    Can manage queue users
    Cannot add company contacts

Manager
    Cannot manage queue users
    Can add company contacts

Owner
    Can manage queue users
    Cannot add company contacts

System Administrator
    Can manage queue users
    Can add company contacts
Gets access to way too much stuff (Backup/Integrations/Advanced/System)

System Owner
    Can manage queue users
    Can add company contacts
Gets access to way too much stuff (Backup/Integrations/Advanced/System)

Ugh. I would consider a second login for one or both of the roles. Different browser, Firefox container, private window, etc.

Since queue user management is typically more urgent, currently we are having her submit a csv file with new contacts to our support team and we upload them. Obviously, this is not a preferred solution, just a workaround.
And, since she also needed the ability to add SMS templates, we've given her the "Owner" role instead of being able to use the Department Admin role.
We really need more granular control.

We are coming across this issue more and more, can anybody at 3CX explain the reasoning behind this change and why can't we choose if a user can control the company address book or not?

It's possible to edit the Company Phonebook with the Receptionist role.

This may be true, but if the customer wants every extension to manage the address book like they did in V18, I don't see why we should have to elevate all users to Receptionist.

I don't understand why a tick box can't be added in to the 'View' tab like it was in V18 along with these;

Show My CallsBarge-in, Listen & WhisperPresenceCallsOperations

Yes, I agree. I just wanted to point out that you don't need to give admin access to users if they wanted to change the phonebook.

What confuses me with the rights (in this case phonebook ones) is that higher level users don't have some of the functionality that lower users do. i.e. why can't an owner manage the phonebook when a manager under him can?

Also, out of interest is department phonebooks and department specific CRM integrations still on the roadmap?

Cheers,

Dave.

Department specific phonebooks are indeed on the roadmap, but not the CRM.

Hi Nicholas,

I definitely recommend that the rights that are fixed in the authorizations can be modified individually because this often causes problems in adjusting to the client's needs.

Best regards, Béla

OK thanks. Can that be added to the roles doc?
I just checked because I've run into this issue on v20 update 4. A Department Administrator cannot edit the company phone book. Unfortunately the roles document still does not list who can, and cannot make edits or changes to it.

I've run into a similar issue with the Multi-Tenant and certain limitations (which is totally fine) not mentioned in the documentation.

Can we have the roles page updated to include the 3CX Phone Book and who can and cannot edit it?

In V20 the rights are now Access Roles that are predefined. You can check the complete list here for more information.
Is the document going to be updated to reflect which Roles can and cannot edit company contacts?

To be clear, I'm referring to logging into 3CX and going to Contacts, selecting a company contact and being able to Edit there. Department Admin, Manager, and Owner at a minimum should be able to do this. Not just System Admin and System Owner.

As well, System admin cannot run reports...which would be helpful for internal training and troubleshooting when giving a customers Network and System administrator the System Admin access.

The department admin can't because those are different companies on multitenant. 3CX has posted that department phone books are on their to-do list.
