Advice please - how many router phones needed?

I am looking to use 3cx cloud for a hotel with 100 grandstream phones and a couple of fanvil phones as router phones.
It is unlikely there will ever be more then 2 or 3 concurrent calls, but all 100 phones will be online.

Do I need multiple router phones or will 1 handle it? or should I set up a SBC? or should I set it up and test and add a sbc later if needed?

Also - if I need a SBC why would I bother using cloud hosted - when I could host on the PC that I would use as SBC?

Thanks - my previous setups have been smaller and simpler. (note System chosen is not the actual system as I am in the planning stage - but need to chose a system to post)

I would recommend to use a SBC.
As far as I know you can connect about 10 phones per router phone.

Imagine one of these router phones will lose connection, then the 10 phones which are connected with it aren´t connected to the 3CX.

One of the advantages of a cloud-hosted system is that clients can still connect even if there is a power outage or internet failure at the main site.
Another advantage is, that you don´t have to open your firewall at your network, so it´s a safety thing as well.

Hello,

Router phones have a limit on how many extensions per phone, we recommend 10 or less, which is also affected by the number of BLFs. In a hotel environment BLFs might not be a great concern, but should be kept in mind.

A hardware SBC should be able to handle all 100 extensions with moderate hardware, less than the full 3CX PBX would need if on-prem.

Also full SBCs can be set up as high availability, which router phones cannot (if a router phone is in a guest room and they unplug it, all connected extensions would go down).

Still for hotels, if there is going to be a PMS integration, they usually require the PBX to be on-prem to work properly.

Small note, separate from your main question. If you have a big tour group come in, and they all want to set an alarm for the same time, that's more than 2-3 concurrent calls. Take it into account.

Thanks all. I was planning on putting the router phone in the comms room, but I think a small NUC SBC will be ideal.
Each phone will likely have 3 or 4 BLFs - reception, kitchen, the hotel next door, and wake up call.

now just waiting on stock!

Definitely requires an SBC (or two depending on the SBC use).

I think you mean Speeddial not BLF for the guestrooms.
You do not want rooms to monitor other extensions.
