Client is frustrated with several aspects of their very expensive handheld radios, and would like to explore the idea of using the 3CX app on the Android devices that every radio user carries, instead of spending five figures on repeater and radio upgrades. It appears the Android 3CX app cannot do this (no auto-answer, no intercom/paging to the 3CX mobile app).

There is full wireless coverage in all the locations where this is needed.

Ideally, the office personnel could use their 3CX desk phone to page a group of Android devices similarly to how they use the walkie-talkies now, and the Android device users could call the office personnel either individually or via a page group. From the little research I did, it appears I need some kind of multicast setup to do this.

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

You can do paging via Ring Groups... you do not HAVE to do Multicast.
However, this will only be to desk phones (and perhaps Softphones on Win/Mac - but not sure).
So, Android will not hear the page AFAIK.

I know this isn't really an answer, but there are many walkie-talkie types of apps that you can choose from. This doesn't sound like something 3CX is interested in developing and there are already other good options out there.

From my testing, the Android app receives this as a regular phone call - it will not receive it as a page.

Right - Zello seems to be the biggest one. However, I'm looking for something that can be tied into the existing 3CX system, so that the office personnel can use their existing desk phones, and the warehouse folks can use their existing Android devices.

It's starting to sound like an impossibility, or at least an implausibility. I'll keep looking and update here if I find something...
