Dumb question: Is a current, valid SSL cert needed for the Android app to work?
Thats the only thing I can find wrong.

Self signed cert thats been expired for a long time. Android app stopped working in the past month or so.

V18 build 8 and most recent version of droid app

Chrome browser version works just fine on the same phone as the app. No issues logging in mgmt console or webclient using https://fqdn:5001
Can send/receive call on the phone web client without issues

Regarding your question, all phones, including apps, use https to provision and require valid SSL certificates which also need to include the full certificate chain.

Should've mentioned I have no problem getting Yealink T48 phones to provision.
