We have a need for a wi-fi phone for several client sites where they need far reaching DECT coverage around several peculiar building layouts where existing DECT is struggling. What they do have is a top-end Unifi 6 wi-fi network across all sites which covers all of them well. We want to take advantage of this by using something like the Linkvil (Fanvil) W611W ? https://www.fanvil.com/linkvil/info/id/119.html

Does anyone have any experience using these with 3CX? Or can anyone recommend another model for what we need?

Thank you

Hi,

Currently we do not support any WiFi phones and the are no plans to change this for the time being.

If you wish to use WiFi, we would recommend to use an Android / iOS device with our app installed. The app is designed with the ability to recover calls and maintain the connection even if the WiFi drops out for a brief moment or two. IP phones are not able to take advantage of this feature.

So either go with a multicell DECT system which should be quite reliable if setup correctly ( Yealink W80 / 90, Gigaset N870 or Snom M900 for example) or use the 3CX app (which you can try first as a more cost effective solution).

Thanks John

It is one of those situations where the client has an unrealistic expectation that the Yealink W73's we have supplied, should work everywhere in the building. They aren't willing to pay for an upgrade to W80 and YellowGrid have an offer on the W611W this month where it's nearly half price. I thought we could take the W73's back in to stock and just swap.

I will propose the smartphone app route for now.

Cheers

If the WiFi coverage is good I think they will be happy with it.

You can even get a nice rugged Android phone with a big battery and lock it down to a single app if this will be a shared device. Just make sure it has google services and a late android version so it will last a while.

Ah brill thanks pal I thought they would. How do we go about setting them up? I know there is a stigma around wi-fi and for good reason, but this stigma mostly comes from poorly setup wi-fi. There is no reason why this couldn't work well with the right kit, settings, QoS etc.

You should just need the ext details, server info etc. If you copy the details from another phone thats already configured you should be fine.

I have been testing a Fanvil X5U on my desk with the wifi dongle, I'm not roaming. I have UniFi AC AP's and this has stayed incredibly stable, no call quality issues however I have noticed that on occasion the phone is showing connected but I'll receive a call and it won't ring. The softphone is ringing just fine. I'm not sure yet why it's not receiving the call...

How is the phone provisioned?

It's a supported phone, you just have to connected to wifi and then provision in the normal way, the only difference is that 3CX don't support it when running in WiFi mode.

I have connected a Fanvil x4u with the wifi dongle and it worked fine. However, I'm trying to provision one as a router phone and it's not working. This is the only phone in the office so I was not very concerned and the rest are using the softphone app. It's not provisioning and what I think is happening is on the reboot the wifi doesn't establish a connection fast enough and it's not auto-provisioning. When I put a network cable on it provisions just fine.

It looks like 3CX are supporting these now? Has anyone managed to deploy successfully a Fanvil W611W? We have another customer now with a need for this.

I have used other x4u's with the wifi dongle fine. But did not have luck making one as a router phone either.
