I'm going to ask AT&T about this but wanted to see if anyone else knows something I missed.

We tested the service and are waiting to port the number block. We are able to use g711 for outbound but AT&T is sending inbound with g729

I thought they used g711 and i would prefer it. I don't remember them asking/stating which codec to use. I just assumed it would use g711 since the template had it first.

I would check their Invite for codecs first. See if G711 is included in the list of codecs they are proposing on an inbound call. If there is then you can remove G729 from your trunks codecs and that should do the trick. But if G729 is the only codec they propose then you will have a call with no audio if you remove G729.

It looks like they give both options but prefer g729. I'll remove it from the trunk and test.

That should solve your issue

Thank you both. I removed G729 from the trunk and inbound calls are using the G711 codec now.
