Away mode modification

Got a client that wants to use away mode (or anything but available) in such a way that internal calls will ring his phone, but external calls go straight to VM. Anyone come up with a creative way to do this?

You can not set any status other than available to have the extension receive a call.

There are options to route external and internal calls to different destinations but not receive a call to an extension set to away or DND etc.
