Solved Backup with SFTP or FTP

I try to configure out how to backup the 3CX database on another server using (S)FTP. I have an SFTP server up and running on a synology server with the IP address 192.168.1.2. My 3CX (Linux) is running on IP 192.168.1.1. I have created a backup users with the name 3cxbackup and a password. The path I created read and write access is /backups/3x on 192.168.1.2. I have tested the sftp protocol woth WinSCP to 192.168.1.2 (the FTP server). This works fine. Now I have to input the parameters in the Web interface of the 3CX instance on 192.168.1.1. I can choose SFTP and fill in the user en password. But nowhere I can select the IP address of the synology. The help doesn't give me a clue.

Thank you for your reply. I am getting an "invalid creditials" error. I changed the username to something simple also the password. These are the settings (username: 1234, password: 1234), ip 192.168.1.163

If i try with the same IP, name and password using WinSCP everything is fine.

You need the folder path as well after the ip address

Still no luck: using ftp://192.168.1.163/backups/3cx and name and password 1234. Winscp works ok with the same credentials (tried both ftp and sftp)

make sure you have the full folder path, I just changed our backup to a Buffalo NAS, and the full file path is /array1/3cx/backups, this will only work if the FULL path is used

What is interest to SFTP if on same LAN ?

Yes, that is true. I aminside the LAN and not to a remote location. So FTP is also ok. But inspite of all I still cannot make it work. I used the full path now (using ftp)

Yes! Found the problem! First of all there was no ftp client installed on the system where 3cx was installed. I found it out by opening a console session on the 3cx server and try to ftp manually. FTP was not found. After installing I still got the same error message in the 3cx web. After some research I found out that after the many failed logins the IP address was put on the blacklist (synology), After correcting this the backups are up and running.

Glad to hear your found the problem. Please note that 3CX does not require you to install an FTP client, it s built in and we will not use the one you installed.
