I know that this request sounds a little bit strange, but it’s true that this is offered by the Yealink T58A device.

So, let’s say we have the following scenario. A manager wants not to be disturbed, except from his personal secretary. So he enables the DND mode, but when his secretary has a call that she thinks is really urgent, she instructed to ask the manager if he will accepted it.

This function exists in the Yealink T58 devices and more specifically is called “DND Emergency”, and we can find it under the menu “Features” > “Forward & DND”. I tried that but unfortunately didn’t work. But the question also comes if that can be also configured from the 3CX itself, so this setting will not be lost when the device will be re-provisioned.

Also, I would like to know if the “number” (features.dnd.emergency_authorized_number) we should use is the extension number. As mentioned above, I tried with the extension number and didn’t work.

Any ideas?

When we set an extension to DND, the device endpoint enters DND mode, but the actualy extension running on the PBX also enters the "DND" status.

From that point, any calls reaching the extension (which is via the PBX of course) are handled based on the Extension Forwarding rules, so the call is actually not even being sent to the Yealink in this case:

However, there is a cheeky way around this, if the secretary's extension has the Right to Intercom, she can still reach her manager's Yealink phone by dialling your paging code (set in Settings > Dial Codes) followed by the extension of the manager. Ensure the manager only has one deskphone, you don't want to intercom IP Phones located elsewhere.

Hi John!

Thank you so much for explaining that and the workaround. I will try to test that tomorrow and I will post here the results. I really appreciate your help!

In the web client under Settings/Call Forwarding/Exceptions would an exception with the extension number override the DND setting?

No, because those exceptions apply forwarding rules (they don't make your extension ring), so your options are only

Hi John!

I would like to inform you that I ran a test according to what you explained (quated below) and it works like a charm.

More specifically I had to enter something in the Dial Code Settings for “Paging” as it was completely blank. I decided to put the code *9 as you see also on the below screenshot. Then by dialing *9 + extension number (eg. *9100 | 100 is the extension number) I can reach the extension 100, as it is ringing, even if it’s in DND mode.

I have no words to thank you about that solution. It does the trick and that’s all we need.
