  • I have a company phonebook in 3CX with staff and client phone numbers.
  • I have flagged which numbers are staff and which are clients using the 'Company' field and the 'Department' field.
  • Not all staff are 3CX users.
  • I want to allow staff calls to come through to an after-hours on-call employee outside of office hours in case of an emergency.
  • I had hoped that there would be a way to set a rule for numbers from one 'Company' or 'Department'
The best solution I have come up with is:
  1. Manually add each staff member as a CID rule and route them to a ring group
  2. Set the 'Destination' for 'When office is closed route to' and add the after-hours on-call employee
This is fairly involved as I need to set a rule for each employee manually and remember to set a rule for each new employee.

Can anyone suggest a better solution?

An easy solution for this is to just create a queue for the after hours on call employee(s) and they can just log in to this queue as needed.

A queue would be preferred to a ring group as you would have the agent logging in and out on demand. Also it would ring the agent until they answer. The Ring Group only processes the list of agents once.

Then assign a DID to this queue which the staff members would know, and they could call this when they need to communicate with the staff member.

The queue itself would have the option after hours to ignore the office hours and accept the call anyway.

This is the way I do it!

Sorry, I should have said I am looking for an alternative that doesn't require adding a DID. I understand that the easiest way would be to have a DID for afterhours and only give that number to those that need it. We are a small business and would like to have just one phone number if possible.
