Call quality indication bars

Hi,

We have a prospect trying the 3CX app.
They noticed the colour of the bars indicating the quality changes from green to yellow and back. This would mean that the call quality would be less, but they don't notice any change in quality.
This happens when their phone is connected to WiFi but also when they use their cellular plan.

Does anyone have any idea why the bars change colour when the actual quality does not change?

Hi Lennart,

At the moment the bars represent general packet loss (not uncommon on wireless devices, inherently they will always have some loss). Codecs can usually deal with a bit of loss, so you might not realize anything if it goes in the yellow.

If it regularly goes in the red, you might start noticing issues and that would be your cue to investigate.

In the future we plan to develop this further and provide tools that help you pinpoint where the loss is, but at the moment the indicator only acts as a rough method of knowing whether you have some loss or not.

This is our current experience.

When we (all users) are communicating with each other using our Fanvil desk phone, we all see 2 (red) out of 4 bars but did not experience any call issues.
When we are communicating with our cell phone apps while connected to wifi, we will see 2 (orange) out of 3 bars and sometimes 1 (red) out of 3 bars but also did not experience any call issues.

Should I be concerned about seeing 2 (red) bars all the time on our desk phone?

Unknown when it comes to IP phones, we were only discussing the 3CX app that we produce.
