Call recording ADPCM format

Wondering what happens to existing call recordings when/and if you select :

• Compress recordings to save space (ADPCM format 256Kb per minute instead of PCM format 1Mb per minute of recording). Note: Will not play on Mobile devices or Browsers. VLC or Windows Media Audio Player will be required

Additionally, If the 3XC system does not compress the existing recordings is there a tool/procedure we can use to compress the existing recordings?

As you said, once the enable that option, all recordings from that point onward will be in ADPCM. I am sure there a lot of 3rd-party applications that may be able compress the existing files, but I would advise caution especially if replacing the original.
