Hi, I'm looking to implement 3CX for a hotel but without the integration into a management system.

Is there a way of limiting numbers that a phone can dial? For instance we only want them to be able to call reception and nothing else (or just reception and certain external numbers)?

Thanks in advance :)

I would look into putting them into a department and creating outbound call rules for that department. Allow 911 of course.

There are a few ways to go about this that I can think of. Ill order them in what I think are best to worst.

1) You can disable outbound calling in the extension directly. This is probably the best option, but does require editing every extenion. If you are importing the CSV of all the extensions then you should be able to do this quickly1738854609749.png

2) Add them all to a department then make an outbound rule for that department with no trunks assign. You will have to have 911 setup in the emergency section as that gets processed before the outbound rules. This is a bit hackish

3) Exclude them from any dialing rule. 3CX requires a dialing rule match to call out. You cant call out if you dont match so dont let it match. This is obviously the worst idea of the 3.

Personally I would go with option 1. It clearly lets you know the extension has outbound calls disabled.

I hope that helps.

Thank you. I'll definitely go with option 1 I think (can't think why they would need to dial external numbers at the moment!).

Option 2 would mean that they can only call 911, correct? (I'm in the UK but I get your point, will just swap for 999). In this instance I could add the reception extension to the emergency numbers which would allow the room to call reception and emergency, and no one else, right?

Option 3 could potentially be the most dangerous, but also the most configurable. How do I set a dialling rule on V20?

Obviously we don't want rooms calling other rooms, just literally the reception extension and emergency. But then we have the staff extensions who have no restriction on anything. I guess if I set them up in different departments that should be doable, right?

(all of it helps a lot, thank you so much!)

You would need to add outbound rules accordingly to allow reception. If you make it an emergency number 3CX will send that alert every time it was dialed.

You mentioned "nothing else" which I took to mean "not call other rooms" but that's an important distinction.

Option 1 would be your best bet. Disable external calls for all room extensions.

However, DO NOT create an outbound rule for emergency numbers, like 911, 999 etc. We have a special sectin of the PBX specifically for emergency calls.

Creating the emergency rules here allows for them to bypass the restriction of external calls.

I repeat, DO NOT create this as a normal outbound rule.
