Calls dropping with dynamic IP setup

Good morning,

I have 3cx configured to work over 2 separate uplinks. When one goes down, it automatically uses the other. All firewall rules are configured the same for both. But whenever it switches to our other public IP, external calls drop after 3 seconds. Any ideas?

It's expected that during a failover of WAN like this, the system will lose all connected calls.

Yes, apologies for the bad wording. I mean after the failover, each new incoming call drops after 3 seconds.

What is the type of second WAN? Cable, Fiber, LTE/5G?

It is Fiber. Google Fiber to be exact.

We have it set to dynamic, that is what our vendor recommended back when we set this up.

After the failover happens, does 3CX show the new IP?

No it still shows "Old Public IP - Dynamic". Are there some services I need to restart after failover or something maybe?

What is the STUN query interval set to? In Settings > Network, under the Dynamic IP field.

Currently set to 1200

Okay, that's 20min so that may be why it does that.

Change it to something like 300, for 5min, and see if on failover, it reacts more rapidly (IP change in the dashboard.)

Our normal uplink was down for over 12 hours, so I don't think this would be the issue but I will still change it.

How do we setup for failovers then with 2 uplinks? Are you saying I should just manually change the public IP each time if I need to?

I usually just cycle services as part of the failover script and that seems to solve it - could change to static and then back to dynamic to see if it helps also. I'm willing to bet the dropped calls stop when 3CX knows the correct IP.

I think its better to find a reliable internet service provider rather then put a fail over system in place that does not work reliably in normal use. You could also consider hosting your system with 3CX and then with the SBC locally you will have a much easier to manage system which you can have extensions register via multiple internet links if internet is not reliable in your area.

Our ISPs both have over 99% uptime, it is very rare we have an outage. Just like to be prepared because nothing is ever 100% perfect. I hear you though and appreciate your feedback Nick. The thought of having 3CX host our system does pique my interest actually....
