We're looking for a solution that would keep calls active/open for a minimum period (10 seconds for example) regardless of when the 3CX user (using a Polycom or Yealink phone) hangs up the handset.
Any parameter or CFD way to make that happen?

Sip messages are normally sent and received in real time, with the exception of network delays . I'm not certain how you would essentially store and forward these.

What is it that you are trying to achieve with this?

A client is making heavy outbound calls (hand dialing, no dialer) and some agents are disconnecting as soon as voicemail answers (as opposed to remaining on the line and leaving a message). Enough of them are doing it now that it is resulting in short duration call penalties from the carrier.
We're going to enforce penalties on the client if they don't correct the behavior but was looking for a way to protect ourselves from having it happen.

The phone is going to send a SIP "bye" message and that's the end of the phone call.... no way around that with a CFD or the 3CX Call Control API.

Perhaps one partial solution would be to incentivise the agent to not hang up when they reach voicemail. I encourage you to take a look at our 3CX Auto Voicemail tool. With this tool, when the agent hears "leave a message after the beep", they can select from a list of prerecorded voicemails and have 3CX leave the voicemail for them. That frees the agent to make the next call while simultaneously 3CX leaves a voicemail in the background.

This has the following benefits:
  • It would keep the phone call connected until the automatic voicemail is finished
  • The agent is released from the call while 3CX leaves the voicemail
  • The agent loses very little time because they do not have to leave the voicemail
  • The phone call is not wasted

Thanks for your input. We educated the client on the benefits of leaving a message and have offered an option to use pre-recorded messages. I was just looking for a way to not have to trust them to do it.

Unfortunately, 3CX does not have the ability to perform voicemail detection (no 3CX API). So I do not see any automated way of automatically saving a voicemail. If we had access to the audio stream, then we might be able to detect the "beep", but for now, something like Auto Voicemail, or enforcing the customer not hang up are your only options.
