I chose 3CX SMTP server during initial setup and it does work but we want to change this now and cannot.

Very simple, std license you have to use 3CX own smtp server

That must have changed recently. It also now states "Custom FQDN" is not supported in Standard yet it let us use a custom FQDN (shhhh, don't tell).

Changed in 15.5 SP3, if you were using a custom FQDN before the upgrade you are allowed to use it
