Hello. What is the best method/configuration for changing the outbound caller ID on the fly? I have two phone numbers that are associated with two different companies.

The default outbound caller id is DID 1, but I want to be able to call people as needed and have the other DID 2 show up. How can I make this happen?

As far as I can tell, this has been in development for over 2 years now? (https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/ability-to-set-a-caller-id-for-outbound-calls.42840/page-11)

I thought about adding a second sip trunk for the second DID, but when I try to add a second using the same credentials it says the username is in use on another sip trunk connection.

This has been going on for a couple of years, have a read through....

I do believe there is an after market add-on.

I saw that during my search and edited my original post. It's incredibly worrying to see that this feature has been promised for upwards of 5+ years now and that it's been on the roadmap for the last 2 releases with no update other than it's supposed to be coming.

It's such a basic feature and it's mindboggling that it hasn't been included after so many requests and promises that it'll get done. This is only my 10th 3CX install and it's the first time it's come up, but I might lose this installation if I can't get a workaround for this.

I use a star code here in our office, however I have heard this will not work with all trunk providers.

I set up a new trunk with just the single DID I was wanting to show as caller ID when used. In the trunk settings I modified the Outbound Parameters > From: User Part > Outbound Line ID, then still in the Trunk configuration I went to the Caller ID Tab and put in the Caller ID I wanted to show. (this will not be the same for all trunk providers so you may have to tinker around with the outbound parameters until you get the desired results)

I then made a new Outbound rule:
Calls to numbers starting with prefix: *6
Calls to Numbers with a length of: 12-13 (*6 XXX XXX XXXX or *6 1 XXX XXX XXXX)
Route 1: [Trunk you just made]
Strip Digits: 2

I have actually done this in my office with 4 different numbers.

Hope this helps.

Of course you can use any prefix, to route calls to different trunks, using outbound rules, with each trunk group assigned a different caller ID, but, that requires you have multiple trunk groups. Not all do
