Hi,

we are still running V18 on Windows 2019 Server.
I have prepared a new Windows 2025 Server and like to move everything over to the new server.
Am struggling a bit with this.

Have tried to do a backup on the old server and then restore it on the new server.
That went through. but 3CX kept the old host names.
I want to use the new hostname with 3CX.

Now I had tried to do a backup on the old server, without the license information and then import that on the new server. But that fails with an error message stating there is something wrong with the license key.

If I create a new config file on the 3cx portal and do a new install and use the config file, 3CX installs, but when I look at the Backup/Restore options, "Restore" is greyd out.
I am a little lost.

How do I approach this?

In summary, I like to:

1.) Move 3CX from an old Windows Server to a new Windows Server
2.) Along with this change the hostname for 3CX
3.) Old server is running on V18. New server should run under V20

By the way, I have a System Owner with an extension and a unic email address.

Thank you,
Cristian

Hi,

Just a basic question, why is a host name change needed? And for the greyed out restore, I believe that that instance is on a trial key?

Thank you.

The new server has a new hostname and joined to my domain in AD.
I like to have both servers for a moment until I am ready to let my users connect to the new server.

Keeping the name would mean, I have to delete the old server from AD before creating the new server.
And I will not be able have both server for a short period, while we migrate over.
