Chat alerts undependable.

We use the web client chat a good bit and were hoping to use 3CX chat to replace our prosody (jabber) server. Unfortunately, the audible alert of a chat message is pretty much worthless. While waiting for a response, if I go to another application or open another tab in my browser, I am not alerted when I receive the response. Furthermore, if my chat concludes but I don't close the conversation, if that person sends a new message, I receive no notice. I know there is a setting to change the alert sound, but no settings on when to alert.
